VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION
Brussels, 24. 10. 2014
Dear Ms Jansen,
Thank you very much for your kind words regarding leadership. I would be happy if you could share these thoughts with your network of women entrepreneurs.
In everything I have done throughout my professional life, I have always done everything on my own terms. Women make an invaluable contribution to business and society should be judged on their own merits. Throughout my career, I have worked with many women who have been successful because they have remained true to themselves and their values.
As Commissioner for the Digital Agenda in Europe, I have encouraging women to seize the opportunities provided by digital technology, to work in the ICT sector and to start- up businesses that take advantage of the potential of digital.
I also think that women in business and in politics need to act as role models for the younger generation in order to inspire them to develop new skills and have the confidence to be leaders in this very competitive but fascinating world. We also need to encourage women to take risks and try new out things. After all, if you don’t try something new, then you will never know what opportunities you are missing. And in my mind, this is unacceptable.
I would like to wish you and your network of women entrepreneurs every success in their careers.
